GPs in UK urged to routinely ask women and girls about period problems

A leading charity, Wellbeing of Women, has called for routine questioning about periods during GP appointments in the UK, citing the inadequacy of current advice and the severe impact of period problems on women and girls. A survey by the charity found that a significant proportion of girls suffer from debilitating period pains, often leading to missed school or being bedbound.

The findings highlight the need for healthcare professionals to take period symptoms seriously and provide appropriate support and treatment. Wellbeing of Women advocates for a society-wide normalization of conversations about menstrual health and calls for better menstrual health education in schools, public health campaigns, and women’s health policies in workplaces.

I agree, it seems like there should be more awareness and support for menstrual health. Sometimes my period pains are so bad i cant move from bed for an entire day, its a real struggle. think having routine questions about periods during GP appointments could reallyt help improve things for girls and women
