We talked, in our last post, about how is is not normal for a female athlete to lose her period. However, it is an issue many athletes face, and may depend on sport, training intensity, nutrition and individual differences.
Coaches, athletes and healthcare professionals should monitor menstrual health and be aware of the potential implications of amenorrhea. However, we currently face a big barrier; female athletes feel ashamed to seek help or admit that they are having an irregular period.
Check out this awesome campaign that was set up by The Well HQ to get everyone talking about periods. Encouraging open conversations about menstruation is vital to break the stigma surrounding periods. This, in turn, can empower individuals with knowledge about their bodies, about training, and to facilitate early detection of health issues.
