Marking boycott

This year’s graduate have yet to receive their grades due to marking delays, universities have announced students graduating this year may only do so with a provisional degree until their grades have been finalised which according to them, may even be delayed into the next academic year.

Therefore students are to attend their graduation ceremony while not knowing if they have actually passed. Some students have complained that without their final grades, they are unable to submit their job application and are currently “stuck in limbo”.

First it was COVID online teaching, then the increase in student loans interests and now they are preventing students from graduating; has the UK education system gone mad!

A dreadful situation which has been allowed to come about through the intransigence of government and university employers.

Has been good to see the solidarity between student unions and UCU on this.

[Edit: Maybe I should tag this as “controversial” …]

This situation is incredibly frustrating for the graduates. The uncertainty around their grades not only affects their immediate job applications but also adds unnecessary stress during a time that should be celebratory.

Absolutely loved this article! More students should speak up about this.
