Nearly 2 million lives lost to preventable cancers each year across seven countries

A study across the UK, US, and BRICS nations reports 1.9 million annual cancer deaths due to preventable factors like smoking, alcohol, obesity, and HPV. Smoking is the leading cause, causing 1.3 million deaths. The impact includes over 30 million years of life lost annually. Variations in cancer patterns are attributed to healthcare differences. Men face more years lost to smoking and alcohol, while women experience more cancer deaths from obesity. Low- and middle-income countries expect a 400% increase in new cancer cases over 50 years, contrasting with a 50% rise in very-high-income countries like the UK.

What steps do you think can be taken on a global scale to address and reduce the impact of preventable risk factors like smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity on cancer-related deaths?
