UK Cancer Survival Progress Hits 50-Year Low

A new report commissioned by Cancer Research UK reveals that progress in cancer survival rates in the UK has slowed down significantly, marking the slowest progress in 50 years. The study highlights that the UK is falling behind comparable countries like Australia, Canada, Denmark, and Norway in combating cancer. Against a backdrop of rising cancer cases, projected to increase by a fifth to around 506,000 by 2038/2040, the report indicates that cancer waiting times in the UK are among the worst on record. Moreover, too many cancers are diagnosed at late stages, and access to treatment remains unequal across the country.

“Almost one in two people across the UK will get cancer in their lifetime. The number of new cases each year is growing.”
It is both surprising and sad to see cancer turn into something like a common cold/flu, where at least somebody in your lane has a diagnosis.
