Staying focused during the final weeks of uni

I am currently about to start my last three weeks of teaching at university. My motivation is at 0% and procrastination to the max. I have really hit a wall and I am trying out different methods to get through this final push, and I wanted to share them with you!

  1. Meditation
I have been meditating on and off now for around a year. I find that during the times where I am really focused on it, I am a lot more zen and at peace. I also find concentrating a lot easier. I like to start off the day with a 10/15 wake up meditation, before even thinking about looking at a screen. Guided meditations are easily found on YouTube and Podcasts. Here’s a link to my favourite meditation podcast: ‎Mindful In Minutes Meditation on Apple Podcasts

  2. Set bedtime/wake up routine
It’s really important not to go to bed/wake up too early/too late. It is all about consistency and sometimes oversleeping can cause you to be more fatigued. I am currently working on going to bed at 10:30pm and turning off all screens (at the latest) at 10pm. I am more productive when I wake up early so my aim is 7:30am.

  3. Healthy eating
What you put into your body is sooo important during times of intense mental activity, stress and deep concentration. I am working on making sure I drink enough water and get my 5-a-day!

  4. Putting my phone down!
My phone causes me no end of concentration issues. I’m sure we have all been there: we are working on something that either becomes boring/difficult and we pick up our phones. Next thing you know, 15 minutes of doom scrolling have passed. This is the biggest time-killer and something I am really working on combatting.

  5. Going out for walks and getting enough exercise
Although spending every waking hour in the library might seem necessary during this peak time, I promise it is counter-productive. It is important to keep the balance and make sure you’re taking time out to get your favourite coffee, going on a walk and having ‘you’ time. Sitting in the library for hours on end is the opposite of productive.

Having a proper bed time routine when I don’t have to go to classes anymore is the most challenging for me, ngl haha

I’ve definitely struggled with motivation and procrastination my entire life . One thing that helps me is breaking tasks into smaller, manageable chunks.
