8,000 steps a day to reduce the risk of premature death

A recent international study led by the University of Granada challenges the 10,000 steps-a-day guideline, suggesting that around 8,000 steps can significantly reduce the risk of premature death. The research, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, also emphasises that walking at a faster pace provides additional health benefits. The study, involving over 110,000 participants, aims to simplify physical activity recommendations by offering clear, achievable targets for improved health. While 8,000 steps are beneficial, the researchers note that more steps, up to 16,000 a day, bring additional advantages.
