Engaging in moderate-to-intense physical activity for at least 10 minutes daily, five times a week, is associated with a reduced risk of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) in older adults, according to a study.
The research, based on a 10-year analysis using data from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing, involved adults over 50. The study quantified the minimal dose of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity linked to lower odds of GAD with/without chronic disease. The findings suggest that even a relatively short duration of regular physical activity may have mental health benefits for older individuals.
