Are you remembering to calm your mind as well as exercise your body?

Mind-body exercises such as yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Pilates offer numerous benefits that are sometimes overlooked in favour of more intense workouts like weight training or aerobic exercise. Recent research suggests that mind-body exercises can positively impact cognitive function in older adults and may aid in the recovery of stroke patients and cancer survivors.

Tai Chi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan, is a martial art originating from China that emphasises both physical and internal aspects of training. Despite its gentle nature, Tai Chi can be practiced for self-defense at a fast pace. For individuals like Syed Ahsan Raza, who suffered knee injuries, Tai Chi provided a suitable alternative to more strenuous martial arts due to its gentle approach.

Tai Chi training offers numerous benefits, including improved agility, balance, coordination, range of motion, and strength. Additionally, it reduces stress, promotes cardiovascular health, enhances mood, and induces relaxation. Its low-impact nature makes it suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels, including those recovering from surgery or living with mobility limitations. Overall, incorporating mind-body exercises like Tai Chi into oneโ€™s fitness routine can significantly improve quality of life.
