The American-born shot putter moved to the United Kingdom with her British mother in 2016 and a year later she claimed silver at the British Athletics Championships. The former microbiology student at Miami University, Ohio went on to represent Team England at on the Gold Coast in 2018 for her Commonwealth Games debut.
The 28-year-old reached the final that summer, later becoming a two-time British champion. At the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Strickler finish sixth in the shot put, with a throw of 17.18m.
1. Your greatest sporting achievement?
It is finishing 13th in the world at the indoor World Champs in 2022.
2. What do you love about shotput?
I love that it is just so empowering as a woman to be strong and do something that not many people can do. It is such a joy to be able to work hard, get a PB and it being all about you and your performance. It’s about making every single rep count to be bale to get better and better.
3. Top tip for a young athlete?
It would be to find a coach that you really trust and really believe will get you on that path to success that you need to be on.
4. What is an issue that needs to be address in Women’s Sport?
An issue that really needs to be address is uniforms and the marketing of women’s bodies. I think women are really looked at as an object and not as a performer and a talented sports person. We really need to be appreciated for our accomplishments not just what we look like.
