The Women and Equalities Committee have published their report on barriers to participation for women in sport, and I was delighted to see it being covered widely in the press yesterday.
Enough insight, enough framing of the problems (which are all important steps), now is the time to actually do something, not just posters or videos, actually change the infrastructure and architecture of sport so that it acknowledges, understands and supports women’s bodies.
The report highlights the need for education. Educating girls about their bodies, not just from a biological perspective but from a ‘this is how you might experience your body as you go about your life’ kind of way. And Educating the sectors workforce so that coaches, trainers, teachers are better able to support active girls and women at every age and life stage.
