New clinical trial to prevent food allergies in children opens

A new clinical trial in the UK, SEAL (Stopping Eczema and ALlergy), aims to prevent food allergies in babies by addressing eczema and skin inflammation early in life. Led by King’s College London and Evelina London Children’s Hospital, the trial will enroll 50 babies under 12 weeks old with dry skin or eczema. Babies will follow either reactive or proactive skin treatment strategies, and their progress will be monitored for two years. Research has shown that babies with eczema have a higher risk of developing food allergies, and this trial seeks to prevent that by restoring the skin barrier.

Could early intervention in eczema help prevent the rise of food allergies in children?
