Parents of children with eczema show a preference for emollients formulated as lotions or gels, as opposed to creams or ointments, potentially improving adherence and disease control. In a secondary analysis of the Best Emollients for Eczema trial, where children were randomised to use different formulations for 16 weeks, parents rated various characteristics of the emollients. Results indicated that preferences for lotions and gels were reflected in factors such as appearance, odour, absorbency, ease of application, packaging, effectiveness, overall satisfaction, plans to continue use, and likelihood of recommending the emollient to others.
