How eczema can create adverse mental health symptoms

Up to 3% of the global adult population is affected by eczema (atopic dermatitis), a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by extremely dry, rough, and itchy skin. Despite available medications to manage symptoms, there is no cure for eczema.

The continuous itching and visual aspects of the condition can significantly impact a person’s quality of life and mental health. Researchers from the National Eczema Association found that 72% of individuals with eczema experience adverse mental health symptoms for one to 10 days a month, with 17% enduring symptoms for more than 11 days per month.

What do you think could be potential avenues for improving the overall well-being of individuals with this condition, beyond the current symptomatic treatments?
