Removing barriers for Muslim women and girls in sport

Sweaty Betty have recently released a new sports hijab, redesigned to allow free movement whilst remaining modest.

A 2023 report by Muslimah Sports Association found that of British Muslim women…

  • 97% would like to increase their participation in sport
  • 37% are not involved in any sport or activities

Sweaty Betty joined forces with sports activist Lipa Nessa to design the hijab, who said…

“It has almost been 10 years since I first decided to wear a hijab. It’s therefore also 10 years since my hijab first caused a fuss on a football pitch.”

All profits from sales of the sports hijab will be donated to the Sweaty Betty Foundation, who will also provide free hijabs every year to a number of girls across the UK

Wow, this is such an incredible initiative by Sweaty Betty! It’s so important to create inclusive sportswear that allows everyone to feel comfortable and confident while being active. I’m really curious about the impact this new hijab could have on increasing participation in sports among British Muslim women.
