Retinoblastoma: Leyland boy, 10, raises awareness of eye cancer charity

A 10-year-old boy named Sam, who lost an eye to retinoblastoma (Rb), a rare cancer, is raising awareness and funds for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT). Sam was diagnosed at 18 months, underwent a seven-hour operation to remove a tumour behind his right eye, and now wears an artificial eye.

He became the “CHECT Champion” after encouraging his schoolmates to wear crazy glasses for a day in support. The charity aids those affected by Rb, offering support and funding research. Sam, planning a football-themed fundraiser, aims to help others facing the challenges of retinoblastoma.

What are your thoughts on Sam’s inspiring efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) after overcoming retinoblastoma?
